LIGHTS OF FIREWORKS'Portugal

Every year at midnight on the first day of the year, the small Portuguese island of Madeira (Madeira in Portuguese) hosts the largest fireworks show in the world. Certified by the Guinness Book of Records, they blew 17 tons of fireworks. On an elliptical area of about 2.7 kms 6, 8000 are explosions per minute for 8 minutes.

On average, 100,000 spectators are coming to see this great show (which costs a staggering one million euros), which takes place in the capital of Madeira, Funchal. FYI, the island does not have 300 000 inhabitants! This is a mandatory stop for cruise ships that come to port, just to see.
